Final Stats
March 12 – The Oberlin College women’s lacrosse team had a very impressive season debut, but came up just short as they fell to Adrian College, 18-17, on Wednesday afternoon.
First-year Taylor Fey had an impressive collegiate debut as she led all scorers with eight goals on 13 shots. Fey also led the Yeowomen with three assists and tied Scarlett Prati for a team-best six draw controls. Prati also added three goals, while Elizabeth Gula, Caroline Walsh and Kaitlin Barrer added two goals apiece.
“We played extremely well,” head coach Deb Ranieri said. “We played strong defense and came up with some key turnovers and interceptions. We also did a great job of winning the ball off of the draw in the second half.”
Adrian (3-0) jumped out to a 7-2 lead early on, but Oberlin (0-1) scored the final five goals of the half to get within two, 10-8, at the break.
The Yeowomen and Bulldogs traded goals for the majority of the second half as Fey made it a 17-15 game with just under eight minutes to play.
After another Adrian goal, Walsh and Prati got OC right on the door step at 18-17 with back-to-back goals in a 17-second span.
In the final two minutes, Gula had a shot blocked and Fey’s final shot attempt from the top of the circle was saved by Bulldogs’ keeper Amanda Faraone to preserve the win for AC.
Oberlin out-shot Adrian 36-32 and also had a 20-18 advantage in draw controls. The Yeowomen also scooped up 11 ground balls, compared to eight for the Bulldogs.
The Yeowomen will return to action this Saturday, when they travel south to take on Marymount University at 11 a.m.
