Well-Balanced Attack Propels Wooster Past Yeowomen Lacrosse Team, 17-10

by Jessie Oram '07

April 19, 2007 -- The Oberlin Women’s lacrosse team was defeated today in North Coast Athletic Conference action by the Fighting Scots of Wooster.  The Yeowomen fall to 6-4 (1-2 NCAC) while Wooster improves to 7-3 (3-0 NCAC).

At the 28:14 mark of the first half, first-year Scarlett Prati scored her first goal to tie the game at 1-1, only 26 seconds after Wooster scored the first goal of the afternoon.  This bounce-back ferocity characterized the first 10 minutes of the game, with Oberlin and Wooster trading goals to a score of 2-2.  In the following five minutes, the Fighting Scots outscored the Yeowomen 4-1.  However, the Yeowomen were again able to bounce back, scoring three straight goals.  The Fighting Scots responded with their own run, scoring three straight and entering halftime with a 9-6 lead.

The Yeowomen opened the second half up strongly, with a goal by Prati only 42 seconds into the final stanza.  All eight of Wooster’s second half goals were scored by different people.  This well-balanced attack proved difficult to defend.

Oberlin was led by Prati who finished with four goals.  Junior Elizabeth Gula contributed two goals and one assist.  First-year Emma Edmondson scored in her third straight game, scoring two goals.  Again, Oberlin’s passing game was led by junior Kaitlin Barrer who had three assists. Wooster was led by three goals from Carly Carey.

The Yeowomen will look for their second conference victory at Allegheny College at 2 p.m. on April 21.
