December 5 -- A 16-2 second half run propelled The College of Wooster over Oberlin College 72-69 tonight in women's basketball at Timken Gymnasium.
Oberlin, which bolted to a nine-point advantage six minutes into the game, took a 32-30 lead after twenty minutes. The Scots responded with a furious four minutes early in the second half, during which Wooster held Oberlin to a single field goal and built a sixteen-point cushion. The Yeowomen battled back to cut the lead to two points with 4:33 to play, but could not get any closer.
"We played a great team game and executed our game plan very well," Oberlin Head Coach Christa Champion said. "The Wooster bench really stepped up. We went through a scoring drought and missed some free throws, and I thought that was the difference."
Senior post Roneisha Kinney led Oberlin with 24 points on 11-15 from the field. She completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Junior Alyssa Clark chipped in 15 points, while sophomores Alisha Smith and Liz Thompson added 14 and 11 points apiece. First-year guard Taylor Keegan paced the Scots with 14 points.
"Roneisha and Alisha played great games," Champion said. "Alyssa stepped up late in the game, and Liz had a tremendous effort in her first game back."
Oberlin slips to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference. NCAC action continues this Saturday when Oberlin travels to Earlham College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
