Yeowomen Slashed by the Tigers, 79-49

Final Stats

February 26 – The third time was not the charm for the Oberlin College women’s basketball team as they fell to Wittenberg 79-49 in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Liz Thompson matched a career-best with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting – including three triple-hits. First-year Katie Thompson and second-year player Alicia Smith added solid scoring contributions as they checked in with 12 and 10 points respectively.

“We had a great first half,” head coach Christa Champion said. “In the second half we just weren’t able to defend them in the post and that is what turned out to be the difference in the game.

Oberlin trailed by just four, 28-24, at the break, but Wittenberg opened the second half on a 21-6 run that lasted nearly eight minutes and never looked back.

The Yeowomen had little answers inside for Katie Gregorevich as she finished with 21 points – with a large majority of her damage coming from the painted area.

OC shot 28.6 percent (18-of-63) for the game – making 7-of-20 attempts from long range for a 35 percent clip. However, the Tigers cashed in 52.5 percent (32-of-61) of their attempts – including 6-of-15 triple tries for a 40 percent success rate.

In her final game in the crimson and gold, senior Roneisha Kinney finished with 10 rebounds to go along with four points.
