Yeowomen Fall to Battling Bishops, 78-49

Final Stats

February 20 – In the final home game of her career, senior Roneisha Kinney recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Oberlin College women’s basketball team lost to Ohio Wesleyan, 78-49, on Wednesday night.

Kinney’s efforts also pushed her past the 500-point plateau in her two-year career at Oberlin. The 6-foot-2 Cleveland, Ohio native finished 6-of-14 from the floor and grabbed seven of her 13 boards on the offensive end.

“This game could have been a lot closer,” head coach Christa Champion said. “We had too many travels and errant passes in the first half. However, we accomplished our goal of improving on our last performance against OWU – improving our shooting percentage by nine percent (38 percent) and lowering theirs by 11 percent (40 percent). We still have some work to do but if we see them in the tournament we will be even more improved from this game.”

For the third-straight game Oberlin (5-19, 4-11 NCAC) got off to sluggish start offensively as the Battling Bishops built up a 24-9 lead 13 minutes into the first half and went into the locker room with a 38-23 advantage.

Things never really got going all night for the Yeowomen as Ohio Wesleyan (16-7, 11-4 NCAC) quickly claimed a 30-point edge, 55-25, five minutes into the second half and never looked back.

The Bishops hoisted 35 triples on the night – dialing in on 14 of them for a 40 percent clip. Overall, OWU shot 37.9 percent (26-of-66), while Oberlin checked in at 33.3 percent (17-of-51), which included a poor 1-of-10 effort from long range.

OWU, which was led by Pam Quigney with 28 points, also benefited from 33 points off of 27 Oberlin turnovers and outscored the OC bench 45-18.

Oberlin will close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:00 p.m. on the road against Wittenberg.
