February 9 – On a night when the senior class was honored, it was junior Alyssa Clark who stole the show by scoring her 1,000th point in a 74-47 loss to Denison University.
Clark, a 5-foot-8 junior, netted 16 points to go along with a game-high 12 boards in her 26 minutes of work. Clark’s milestone basket came on a wheeling floater in the lane with 14:38 left to play in the second half. Clark has now recorded 1,007 points while wearing the Oberlin crimson and gold.
“This was a great milestone for Alyssa,” head coach Christa Champion said. “I am really proud of the way she has been playing the last few weeks and now we can take this milestone and continue to build from there.”
The rest of the Yeowomen really never got things going offensively as Oberlin (5-16, 4-8 NCAC) shot just 27 percent (17-of-63) from the floor and was just 2-of-12 from long range.
“We competed very hard, but we had a lot of trouble finishing inside.” Champion added. “ It feel like we were rushing our shots and were out of rhythm shooting tonight.”
Denison (14-8, 10-3 NCAC) held a 33-18 lead at the break and never looked back as it had five players score in double-figures.
Seniors Roneisha Kinney and Valerie Cain were escorted by their families prior to the start of the game as they were honored for their commitments to Oberlin basketball.
Yeo Notes: Valerie Cain made her first start of the season and finished with four points on made 3-pointer and free throw … Roneisha Kinney finished with eight points and is now 22 points shy of reaching 500 for her two-year career at Oberlin.
