Cold Shooting Plagues Yeowomen in Defeat to Allegheny

Final Stats

February 13 – Despite solid production off of the bench, the Oberlin College women’s basketball team had little answers for Allegheny’s interior play as the Gators topped the Yeowomen 73-52 on Wednesday night.

First-year Christina Spencer was one of the bench bunch members that kept Oberlin close as she scored a career-high 12 points in just 13 minutes of playing time. Senior Roneisha Kinney also added tied a season-high with 14 rebounds on the night.

Oberlin (5-17, 4-9 NCAC) was plagued by cold shooting throughout the game as it shot just 28.8 percent (19-of-66) from the floor. The Yeowomen also had trouble containing Emilie Simone inside as she finished with a game-high 19 points.

“We really had no answer for Emilie tonight,” head coach Christa Champion said. “ However, I was glad to see us get some production from the bench, but I hope we can shoot the ball better on Saturday.”

Oberlin trailed by 12, 37-25, at the break and could never put together an extended run in the second half to try to cut into the Allegheny (9-13, 6-7 NCAC) lead.

The Gators benefited from a 34-18 points in the paint advantage and cashed in 19 points off of 20 Yeowomen turnovers.

OC will be back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it makes the short trek over to Hiram College for a showdown with the Terriers.
