Yeowomen Edged by Wooster, 51-61

January 5, 2007 -- Two players for the Oberlin women's basketball squad achieved double-doubles this evening against The College of Wooster, but the Yeowomen were defeated by the Fighting Scots, 51-61. The North Coast Athletic Conference loss drops Oberlin's record to 0-4 in league play and 4-7 overall, while visiting Wooster improves to 6-6 (2-2 NCAC).

The Fighting Scots utilized a 15-2 run to begin the game and headed into halftime with a 30-22 lead. In the second period, Oberlin went on a 19-9 run to take a 41-40 lead with 8:57 remaining in the contest. The Yeowomen led 50-45 with 3:57 left in the game, but Wooster responded by going on a 16-1 run to close out the game with the 10-point victory.

Alyssa Clark led all scorers tonight with 19 points, and the sophomore also racked up 10 rebounds and three steals. Senior captain Jessie Oram continued to post solid numbers this season, tallying 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Junior Roneisha Kinney also contributed 10 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

Wooster was paced by senior forward Carly Loehrke, who tallied a team-best 17 points and 13 rebounds. Loehrke also racked up a game-high four steals in 34 minutes of action. Freshman guard Kym Wenz contributed 14 points, five boards, and three steals in the win.

Oberlin will continue NCAC action on Wednesday when Hiram College visits Philips Gym for a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
