January 27, 2007 --
Senior Jessie Oram's 20 points, six rebounds, and three steals weren't
enough to lift Oberlin (5-13, 1-9 NCAC) past Wittenberg University
(9-8, 6-3 NCAC), as the host Tigers defeated the Yeowomen, 68-45, in
North Coast Athletic Conference action in Springfield.
Wittenberg jumped out to a 14-6 lead to begin today's game and never looked back, taking a 39-23 advantage into the intermission. Oberlin played a much better defensive second half, but was still outscored, 22-29.
Oberlin shot well for the day, boasting a 46.5 percent shooting percentage from the floor, compared to Wittenberg's 44.6 percent; however, the Tigers went 9-19 from beyond the arc and attempted 13 more shots than the Yeowomen. Additionally, the Tigers forced 28 Oberlin turnovers and held a 19-2 advantage in second-chance points.
No other Yeowoman reached double figures in scoring, with sophomore guard Kira Rivera adding six. Wittenberg was led by Gina Carney, who netted 14 points on four treys. Katie Gregorevich added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers.
