Alyssa Clark (So.)
Yeowomen Edged by Ursuline, 82-85

February 9, 2007 -- Head Coach Christa Champion's Yeowomen aimed to keep their recent winning ways alive this evening at Ursuline, but the Arrows were able to hold off Oberlin and pick up a 85-82 non-conference victory. Sophomore guard Alyssa Clark had a monster game for Oberlin, netting 16 points, pulling down 10 rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and picking up six steals. The Yeowomen slipped to 6-17 with the defeat, while Ursuline evened its record at 13-13 with the win.

Oberlin led a few times in the first half, but trailed heading into the intermission, 40-41. The Yeowomen took a 55-52 lead in the second period after a jumper by senior captain Jessie Oram with 14:14 remaining. The Arrows responded with a 17-3 run, though, to go ahead 69-58 with 8:41 left in the contest. A few late three-pointers by Oberlin kept the game within reach, but the hosts were able to hold on for the victory.

First-year Monica Zell continued to stay red hot for Oberlin, as she drained five treys en route to bucketing 17 points. In just 26 minutes of action, junior forward Roneisha Kinney also accumulated 12 points and eight rebounds.

Ursuline was led to victory by guard Whitney Blackburn, who tallied a game-best 20 points on six three-pointers.

Oberlin outrebounded Ursuline 35-30 and also outshot the hosts with a 47.1 percentage from the floor; however, the Arrows were incredible from beyond the arc, netting 13 of 21 attempts, good for 61.9 percent. Additionally, Ursuline shot 26-31 from the charity stripe (83.9 percent).

"We played a very good offensive team on a night when they shot extremely well," Champion said. "We allowed too much dribble penetration, which helped their three-point shooting quite a bit."

The Yeowomen have just two games left in the 2006-2007 campaign, both of them being North Coast Athletic Conference contests. Oberlin will travel to Denison on Valentine's Day for a 7:30 p.m. showdown with the Big Red, then will return to Philips Gym for a 1:00 p.m. game with Earlham College (Ind.)
