Women's Basketball Squad Downed by Ohio Wesleyan University, 45-75

January 24, 2007 -- The Oberlin women's basketball team led visiting Ohio Wesleyan 8-7 with 10 minutes left in the first half of tonight's North Coast Athletic Conference contest, but the Battling Bishops went on a 27-16 run to close out the half and outscored the Yeowomen 41-23 in the second period to claim a 75-45 victory. With the defeat, Oberlin's record fell to 5-12 overall and 1-8 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 11-7 (6-3 NCAC).

The Yeowomen were led tonight by senior center Jessie Oram, who accumulated a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Bishops were paced by Rachel Messaros, who made five treys for 22 points.

Also contributing tonight for Oberlin were junior forward Roneisha Kinney and sophomore guard Alyssa Clark. Kinney netted 12 points and grabbed four boards, while Clark tallied seven points, four assists, and three steals. While Messaros was the only Bishop to reach double figures in scoring, three other Ohio Wesleyan players scored nine points.

The Bishops held a narrow advantage in rebounding, 37-35, and scored 22 points off 29 Oberlin turnovers. Ohio Wesleyan and the Yeowomen both netted 24 points in the paint for the game.

Oberlin will return to action on Saturday for a NCAC road game at Wittenberg. Tip-off for the contest against the Tigers is slated for 2:00 p.m.
