February 28, 2007 --
Three Oberlin basketball players received All-North
Coast Athletic Conference honors yesterday after a
vote conducted by the league's coaches. For the Yeowomen,
senior captain Jessie Oram was the lone All-NCAC pick,
but she was one of just a handful of league players
to receive first team recognition. For the men's team,
senior co-captain Quinton Spencer earned second team
All-NCAC honors, while Mike Loll received honorable
mention all-league accolades after just his second
season with the team.
Oram and Spencer both reached the 1,000-point
plateau this season after outstanding careers at Oberlin.
Oram, a native New York, N.Y., collected 1,369 points
in four years with the Yeowomen. She ranked near the
top of the league leaders in nearly every category
imaginable, including scoring (second - 15.4 ppg),
rebounding (fifth - 7.5 rpg), field goal percentage
(seventh - 43.0%), free throw percentage (second -
78.0), and blocked shots (fourth - 1.36 bpg). Oram
leaves Oberlin with the career record in free throw
percentage (73.7%), which breaks the previous record
set by standout Nzinga Broussard '02 (71.8%).
Spencer, a native of Chicago, Ill., accumulated
1,221 points in just three seasons with the Yeomen.
He ended the 2006-2007 campaign ranked eighth in the
league in scoring (15.5 ppg), sixth in rebounding (7.0
rpg), eighth in assists (2.57 apg), and sixth in steals
(1.43 spg).
Loll led the team in both scoring (15.8
ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg), and ranked seventh and
fifth in the NCAC in the two categories, respectively.
He also finished the year sixth in the league in blocked
shots (1.36 bpg), fifth in free throw percentage (83.7%),
and third in minutes played (33.4 per game).
