January 13, 2007 -- The Oberlin College women’s basketball team fell to visiting Kenyon College this afternoon, 49-66. The Yeowomen drop to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Ladies improve to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the NCAC.
The Ladies started off the game on a 34-10 run to extend their lead to 24, eventually coasting into halftime with the score 38-14. Kenyon’s Hilary Gowins was the top performer in the first half, scoring 11 points on 4-8 shooting, including three treys.
The Yeowomen out-scored the Ladies 35-28 in the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough, as the visitors held on for the league win. Kenyon led by as many as 31 points in the final period.
Jessie Oram put together a double-double for Oberlin, totaling game-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The senior captain also had three blocks in 23 minutes of action. First-year Monica Zell scored 12 points, including three treys, while sophomore Alyssa Clark accumulated 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Kenyon's Hilary Gowins scored a team-high 14 points, while Eva George tallied 12 points, five boards, and three steals. Alisha Moreno also boasted game-highs of six assists and four steals in the league win.
Oberlin returns to conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Allegheny College (Pa.). Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday will mark the first road webcast of the year, with the broadcast slated to begin at 5:45 p.m.
