February 15, 2007 -- Host Denison University jumped out to a 17-8 lead in tonight's women's basketball game against Oberlin and never looked back, coasting to a 72-50 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Yeowomen. The Big Red stayed atop the league standings and improved to 20-4 overall (14-1 NCAC), while Oberlin slipped to 6-18 (2-13 NCAC).
After falling behind early, Oberlin trailed 17-35 at the intermission. In the second half, the Yeowomen played the Big Red pretty evenly, but were unable to mount a comeback.
Two Oberlin players reached double figures in scoring tonight, led by sophomore Alyssa Clark (Cleveland Hts., Ohio/Regina), who netted 13 points, grabbed eight boards, and passed for three assists. Sophomore point guard Kira Rivera also reached double digits, scoring 11 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor.
Denison was led by Kristen Sheffield's 18 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks. The hosts outrebounded Oberlin 47-30 and held a 34-20 advantage in the paint.
Oberlin will host Earlham on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for its last regular season contest. The women's alumnae game will also take place at 9:00 a.m.
