-- Oberlin's volleyball team kicked off its 2007 season today by competing in the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational. The Yeowomen were narrowly defeated by Wilmington in the first match of the day, 30-18, 23-30, 25-30, and then lost a heartbreaker tonight to Grove City, 27-30, 26-30, 30-25, 31-29, 9-15.
First-year outside hitter Amanda Wysk had an excellent debut match against Wilmington, as she recorded four of the Yeowomen's 14 services aces. Fellow first-year Maggie Jacobson had 4.5 blocks in the nightcap, and sophomore Tammela Platt racked up an impressive 30 digs.
Results from the first day of the tournament, as well as Saturday's schedule, are listed below. The Yeowomen will face LaRoche tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and then play a fourth match at a to-be-determined time.
