Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh's Oberlin volleyball team
continued its long streak of away contests today by
traveling to Richmond, Indiana, to face Earlham College.
The Yeowomen put up a strong fight against the Quakers,
but the hosts defeated Oberlin, 3-1, to improve to
9-13 overall and 3-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Oberlin slides to 3-16 (0-10 NCAC) with the defeat.
Earlham controlled the first two games today, jumping
out to a 2-0 lead after winning 30-22 and 30-19. The
Yeowomen rallied back for a 30-25 win in game three,
but the Quakers responded with a 30-23 in the fourth
frame to clinch the 3-1 victory.
Oberlin was led in the defeat by middle hitter Maggie
Jacobson (three block assists and eight kills) and outside hitter Melissa DeLombaert (three block assists and three kills), who
who solid matches up front, and senior Deysi Villarreal,
who tallied 30 digs, 24 assists, two block solos, and three block assists in the four games. Additionally, first-year Anna Frackman had 13 kills and sophomore Rita Kaplon tallied three block assists and block solo, while first-year Amanda Wysk racked up 11 kills and a block solo.
Earlham was paced in the win by Lisa Vanderkolk's
22 kills and three blocks.
The Yeowomen will travel to Ohio Wesleyan on October
16 at 7:00 p.m. for their next game.
