-- The Oberlin volleyball team traveled to Hiram College today to face the host Terriers and also Tri-Valley Community College. The Yeowomen fell to Hiram in the opener, 0-3 (23-30, 22-30, 21-30), but later in the afternoon Oberlin blanked Tri-Valley, 3-0 (30-18, 30-14, 30-17). After today's contests, Oberlin's record stands at 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
The theme for the Yeowomen today was the increasingly strong play by the middles, as they continue to become an integral part of Oberlin's offense and defense. First-years Melissa DeLombaert and Maggie Jacobson both had solid matches for Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh.
DeLombaert had seven kills on 21 attempts and hit .248 for the day, including a .400 hitting percentage against Hiram. Jacobson boasted great offensive play, racking up 12 kills on 33 attempts and a .242 attack percentage.
Oberlin's next game will be on October 12 when it travels to nationally-ranked Wittenberg University.
