-- The Oberlin Volleyball squad lost a heartbreaker this evening to Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-3. The visiting Battling Bishops rallied back from a 0-2 deficit to secure the North Coast Athletic Conference win and improve to 7-9 (1-3 NCAC) on the year. Oberlin fell to 3-11 (0- 5 NCAC) with the loss.
The Yeowomen got off to a great start by rolling to wins of 31-29 and 30-26 in the first two games. In the third game, it appeared as if Oberlin would coast to a sweep of Ohio Wesleyan; however, the Bishops survived three match points in the third frame, winning 31-29, and another match point in the fourth, winning 32-30. In the first-to-15 finale, Ohio Wesleyan got off to a fast start and held on for the 15-7 victory.
The Oberlin trio of first-years Amanda Wysk, Anna Frackman, and Maggie Jacobson put forth extremely strong efforts tonight. Wysk collected at least 20 kills for the second straight match, amassing 21 kills, one block assist, 23 digs, and an ace. Frackman had perhaps her strongest match of the season by racking up 15 kills, one block solo, and 22 digs, while Jacobson tallied seven kills. Senior Deysi Villarreal also stood out this evening with 16 kills, 31 assists, and 26 digs.
Oberlin will hit the road for the next month, with its next contest coming on October 2 at Denison University.
