Yeowomen Beaten by Allegheny in NCAC Volleyball Action, 1-3

October 5, 2007 -- The Oberlin volleyball team traveled to Meadville, Pa. tonight hoping to avenge a pair of losses from earlier this season to Allegheny College. The Yeowomen were tied with the Gators after two games, but the hosts narrowly defeated Oberlin in the last two frames to win the North Coast Athletic Conference match, 3-1.

Allegheny (10-8, 3-4 NCAC) took game one, 31-20, but Oberlin (3-13, 0-7 NCAC) rallied back for a 30-28 win in the second game. The Yeowomen came out strong in games three and four by blocking well and making quality adjustments; however, the hosts were able to edge Oberlin, 30-27 and 30-28, to close out the match.

Oberlin played well throughout the night despite the loss. The Yeowomen matched the Gators in digs with 99 and accumulated 11 blocks as a team. Leading Oberlin statistically were Deysi Villarreal and Rita Kaplon. Villarreal hit .200 and had 21 assists, while Kaplon hit .235 with 24 assists.

The Gators were led in the win by Amanda Bancroft, who had 51 assists and an ace. Annie Schultheis also had 16 kills and 21 digs.

The Yeowomen will return to action tomorrow when they face both Hiram College and Tri-Valley Community College.
