-- After rattling off two straight victories, the Oberlin volleyball team visited The College of Wooster this evening with hopes of earning a North Coast Athletic Conference win. The Fighting Scots (12-10, 6-3 NCAC) held strong, though, to defeat the Yeowomen in three games (30-25, 30-19, 30-24).
Oberlin jumped ahead to a quick 2-0 advantage in the first game of the night, but Wooster rallied for six straight points to take back the early lead. The Yeowomen tied the score at 17-17 and then moved ahead 22-18; however, Wooster out-scored Oberlin 12-3 in the rest of the opener to earn the win.
Wooster rolled to a 8-4 lead in game two, before Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh's squad fought back to tie the contest at 8-8. After a kill by Erin Shaffner, the hosts never looked back, though, claiming the 30-19 victory. In the third game, Oberlin mustered up another comeback after falling behind 12-4, tying the game at 21-21. Led by another Shaffner kill, Wooster then moved ahead 22-21 and held onto its lead to win the match.
The Yeowomen will remain on the road on Friday night when they trek to Allegheny College for a 7:00 p.m. NCAC match-up.
