Meaghan Pugh (Sr.) helped anchor Oberlin's defense in two
non-conference victories on October 8 |
-- Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh's Oberlin volleyball team
ended the week on a high note, winning two non-conference
matches this afternoon at Lake Erie College. The Yeowomen
routed D'Youville College (N.Y.), 3-0 (30-12, 30-28,
30-19), and also blanked host Lake Erie, 3-0 (30-22,
32-30, 30-28). With the pair of wins, Oberlin bettered
its record to 5-13 overall.
The Yeowomen were led defensively in today's victories
by senior Meaghan Pugh and sophomore Caitlin Donnelly.
Junior Deysi Villarreal and first-year Rita Kaplon also
did an outstanding job of getting to the ball and controlling
the offense.
"We just played well as a team today," Cavanaugh
said. "The five days of practice that we had leading
up to these matches really paid off."
Added Cavanaugh, "We executed when we needed to
and really gelled. Hopefully this is a turning point
for us in our season."
Oberlin will return to North Coast Athletic Conference
action on October 11 when The College of Wooster visits
Philips Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. match.
