by Cassius Harris '08 -- Tonight's home volleyball match featured The College of Wooster and Oberlin in North Coast Athletic Conference action. Wooster defeated the Yeowomen in three games, 30-28, 30-13 and 30-23. Oberlin showed a tremendous amount of effort in all three games, but the visitors proved to be a tough match this evening in Philips Gymnasium.
In the first game, Wooster went up by as many as eight points, out-scoring Oberlin at the onset. The Yeowomen began to show light, though, as they poured on the ace’s, assists, kills and bump-set-spikes to pull within three,
25-28. Shortly after, first-year Rita Kaplon assisted senior Alix
Feeley for the kill to put the Yeowomen within one at 28-29. Wooster would take game 30-28, though, by winning the next point.
The Scouts executed well in the second game, winning by a score of 30-13.
Oberlin showed heart in the in the final game, but came up just short, 23-30. Overall as a unit, the Oberlin squad recorded 24 kills, two
blocks, and 62 digs tonight.
“We need to execute the game plan better and control what we can do
well, Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said.” “We’ve come a long way, we
just need to stay composed throughout the match.”
The Yeowomen are now 2-3 on the season and will take the floor again on Friday
night when they the Gators Of Allegheny College at 7:00 p.m.
