September 19, 2006 -- In tonight’s non-conference volleyball match at Philips Gym, the Yeowomen swept the Lake Erie Storm in three games, 30-26, 30-22, 30-
28. From the start of the match to the end, Oberlin simply out-hustled and out-played Lake Erie to earn the 3-0 victory.

Game one was owned by the Yeowomen, as they punished the Storm to jump ahead by more then ten points, 27-17. Lake Erie started to make a comeback as they notched six straight points to pull within four (23-27); however, the Yeowomen stayed the course and fought hard to take the first game of the night, 30-26.

The Yeowomen had some tricks up their sleeves this evening with tremendous play set-ups and great defense. Oberlin continued to play well in game two as they put down a wealth of kills, winning by a score of 30-22.

Lake Erie played Oberlin tough in the third game, and at one point tied the game 28-28. Shortly after, though, junior Deysi Villarreal put away a kill to give Oberlin the lead for good. Overall as a unit, Oberlin notched 11 aces, 37 kills, and 66 digs to pick up the win.

"Overall I thought we serve received well and passed to target making it
easier for our setters," Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh said. “We had solid contact on the ball from all of our hitters, we did a great job on defense, and in the end, we were more consistent.”

The Yeowomen are now 3-7 on the season and will get back into conference action when they host Wittenberg University on Friday night at Philips Gym (8:00 p.m. start).
