November 5 -- Senior Deysi Villarreal, a native of Tucson, Arizona (Canyon del Oro High School), was named second team All-North Coast Athletic Conference after a vote conducted by the league's coaches. Villarreal closed out her career at Oberlin in spectacular fashion, leading the Yeowomen to seven wins, two better than their 2006 total, which was also two better than their 2005 amount of victories.
Villarreal was a well-recognized force to be reckoned with in the NCAC during her four years sporting the crimson and gold. This year, she was second on the team in kills (255), first in assists (533), second in digs (414), and third in blocks (53). And, perhaps most importantly, Villarreal was certainly among the league leaders in spikes that struck fear into opposing blockers.
October 30 -- Head Coach Carey Cavanaugh's Oberlin volleyball team hosted Notre Dame College this evening for a non-conference match at Philips Gymnasium. It was the final match of the 2007 season for the Yeowomen, and also the last career match for seniors Deysi Villarreal and Kate Cook. The Yeowomen fought hard in each game, but were unable to earn a win against the Falcons, falling 0-3 (25-30, 22-30, 21-30).
