March 27 - Junior Kyle Taljan began the Bayou Classic for Oberlin with a strong effort in the decathlon by finishing sixth overall.
Taljan, a local product from North Ridgeville, Ohio, registered 5,176 points in the event, which is nearly 200 points shy off his own school record.
“This is obviously Kyle’s first run through the decathlon this spring, and I think he performed very well against very good Division I competition,” head coach Ray Appenhemier said.
Taljan was the top performer in the javelin as his tossed covered 49.1 meters. He also finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:58.08.
He and the rest of the track and field team will be competing against stiff competition starting on Friday as the Bayou Classic in Houston, Texas gets into full swing.
