Final Results
January 26 – First-year Josh Gallagher didn’t waste any time putting his name into the Oberlin record books as he set a new school best in the men’s weight throw on Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Relays.
Gallagher, a native of West Harrison, N.Y., covered 39-03 ¼ with a 28 pound weight to set the new school mark.
“I was happy with the way we competed today,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We had some good performances and this should be a good lead-in to the conference relay meet next weekend.”
Other OC highlights at the non-team scored meet, including a second-place finish in the women’s 4-x-400 meter relay as tandem of Clara Shaw, Christa Wagner, Madeline Schultz and Anna Chernin completed the course in 4:10.2.
Shaw also shined individually with a second-place effort in the women’s mile as she clocked in at 5:21.19. Teammate Hilary Tipton ended in fourth at 5:42.02.
Schultz also had a strong performance in the 55m hurdles as she finished in fifth with a mark of 9.54. The sophomore from Concord, Mass. also finished fourth in the high jump – clearing 4-09 ¾.
Chernin added a fifth-place finishes in the 200m dash (28.09) and 400m (1:02.21).
Senior Christa Wagner registered a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800 meters – touching the tape in 2:25.89.
NCAC cross country champion, Joanna Johnson, displayed her outstanding distance ability with a run of 10:41.09 in the women’s 3000m – ending in fourth overall.
Melissa DeLombaert posted a fifth-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 31-03 ¼.
On the men’s side, junior Conor Doss clocked in at 9:06.33 in the men’s 3000m to earn a fourth-place finish.
Ryan King ended in eighth place in the men’s mile with a time of 4:35.28.
Oberlin will return to the terrain on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the NCAC Relays at Denison University.
