February 6 – The Oberlin College women’s track field team is ranked No. 17 in the women’s USTFCCCA Division III Coaches Power Rankings poll, which was released this afternoon by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Yeowomen have already had some outstanding performances on the young season with Anna Cherin setting a new school record in the women’s 500-meter dash with a time of 1:20.24.
Oberlin also had a strong performance at last week’s NCAC Relays – finishing in second place with 82.5 points. Some of Oberlin’s highlights included distance specialist Joanna Johnson checking in at 18:31.67 to win the women’s 5,000 meter run, while teammate Marie Barnett followed in at 18:51.01 to earn second place. Also, the tandem of Alex Petek, Clara Shaw, Christa Wagner, Hillary Tipton took top honors in the 4-x-800 meter relay in a time of 9:59.80.
OC has 154.96 points in the power rankings poll. Fellow NCAC school Allegheny checks in at No. 8 with 170.01 points, while league-member Ohio Wesleyan ranks No. 11 with 170.75 points. Tufts University sits atop of the poll with 198.14 points.
Oberlin will host its second meet of the season Friday, Feb.8, at 6:00 p.m. inside the John W. Heisman Field House.
