Track and Field Completes Second Oberlin Open

Final Results

February 9 – The Oberlin College track and field squads had another strong outing in the non-team scored Oberlin Open event last night at the John W. Heisman Field House.

“We did a lot of good things tonight,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “I was happy with we achieved and hopefully we can continue to improve each week.”

Deysi Villarreal set a new school record in the women’s pole vault as she cleared 9-06 to finish fourth overall. Her new school-best mark tops Kristen Hansen-Day’s vault of 9-00.25 that she set in 2006.

The Yeowomen controlled spots one-through-four in the 800-meter run as Anna Cherin touched the tape in first at 2:20.74. Clara Shaw followed at 2:25.01, while Christa Wagner (2:25.98) and Alexandra Petek (2:28.34) ended third and fourth respectively.

NCAC Co-Distance Runner of the Week, Marie Barnett continued to shine by winning the 3,000 meter run with a season-best time of 10:49.35.

The Oberlin ‘A’ team tandem of Alexandra Gemma, Amelia Fortunato, Lily Krichels and Chernin won the 4-x-200 meter relay with a team-best mark of 1:53.36.

Madeline Schultz tied for first in the high jump – clearing 4-09.5, while also taking second place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.64.

OC claimed the top three spots in the women’s long jump with Chisara Nwabara checking in first with a mark of 14-08.75. Krichels (14-08.5) and Melissa DeLombaert (14-04.00) ended in second and third. Delombaert later returned to win the triple jump – covering 32-11.00.

On the men’s side, Oberlin claimed spots two-through-four in the 400 meter dash as Seth Wimberly ended in 52.68. Cody Bartley followed at 53.01, while Peter Morris came in next at 54.23.

Oberlin’s ‘A’ team group of Morris, Kyle Taljan, Wimberly and Hartley won the 4-x-200 meter relay by completing the course in 1:35.40.

Anthony Osei added another win for the Yeomen with a mark of 20-09.25 in the long jump.

Oberlin will be back in action next Friday (Feb. 15) when they host third Oberlin Open meet of the season starting at 6 p.m. from John. W. Heisman Field House.
