Women Second; Men Sixth at NCAC Relays

Final Results

February 2 – Oberlin College had a plethora of top performances, including a new school record in the men’s distance medley relay to highlight the day at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays on the campus of Denison University.

The Yeowomen finished in second place with 82.5 points behind Ohio Wesleyan, which won the event with 97 points. The Yeomen finished in sixth with 43 points, as they were just six points back of third-place Denison (49). The Battling Bishops also won the event on the men’s side with 88.5 points.

“All in all this was a great meet for us,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “What I saw was very impressive and promising for both the men and women as we continue to go forward.”

The men’s DMR team consisting of Ryan King, Seth Wimberly, Andrew Pike         and Conor Doss clocked in at 10:46.10 to end in fifth place, to best the old school mark of 10:47.66, which was set last season. Doss also completed the 5,000 meter run in 15:48.17 to finish in fourth place.

The group of Alex Petek, Clara Shaw, Christa Wagner, Hillary Tipton took top honors in the 4-x-800 meter relay in a time of 9:59.80.

Distance specialist Joanna Johnson checked in at 18:31.67 to win the women’s 5,000 meter run, while teammate Marie Barnett followed in at 18:51.01 to earn second place.

In women’s 4-x-200 meter the team of Alexandra Gemma  Lily Krichels, Madeline Schultz and Anna Chernin posted a mark of 1:51.84 to finish in second place.

On the men’s side of the 4-x-200 Edwin Takahashi, Kyle Taljan, Peter Morris and Cody Hartley clocked in at 1:36.00 to finish third.

Shaw, Krichels, Schultz and Chernin teamed up to finish second in the 4-x-400 meter with a time of 4:14.97.

Schultz also tied for second in the women’s high jump as she cleared 4-11.

Tipton, Chernin, Wagner, Shaw ended in second in the women’s DMR as they completed the course in 12:58.30.

Deysi Villarreal posted a third-place mark in the women’s pole vault as she covered 9-06.25.

In the men’s long jump, senior Anthony Osei placed third with a mark of 19-11.75.

Sophomore Katy Cook had an impressive mark in the women’s shot put as her toss covered 34-05.50 – earning her third place.
