March 1 – The Oberlin College track and field team posted one the best conference-finishes in school history as the women ended in third place, while the men finished in fifth.
“These kids did such a wonderful job representing themselves, our College and our team,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “I am so proud of their efforts as this was such a great day for our program.”
The Yeowomen, whom tallied 123 points, earned All-Conference honors in six events today to go along with the five they garnered on day one.
Senior Anna Chernin won the women’s 400 meter run in 59.87 and also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4-x-400 meter relay team that posted a new school-record time of 4:07.28. Preceding Chernin in the relay foursome were Christa Wagner, Amanda Miller and Madeline Schultz.
Wagner also shined individually as she finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.01.
The dynamic distance duo Marie Barnett and Joanna Johnson performed well as Barnett claimed the top spot in the 3,000-meter run in 10:34.56, while Johnson followed in second at 10:35.14.
Chisara Nwabara also ended in third in the long jump with a mark of 15-11.50.
Ohio Wesleyan was the overall team champion with 154 points.
The Yeomen, whom tallied 49.5 points, were led by Anthony Osei’s second-place finish in the long jump as he cleared 21-00.75. Teammate Cassius Harris followed in fourth place with a mark of 21-00.50.
Ryan King recorded a new school-record time of 4:21.67 in the mile run to finish in fourth place overall.
OC also had great success in relay events as the foursome of King, Peter Morris, Kiron Roy and Don Flemming established a new school record in the DMR with a time of 10:45.35 – ending in fourth place.
The grouping of Edwin Takahashi, Kyle Taljan, Cody Hartley and Seth Wimberly completed the 4-x-200-meter relay in 1:34.61 to finish in third place.
Taljan, Morris, Hartley and Wimberly also teamed up to finish fifth in the 4-x-400-meter relay with a mark of 3:32.20
Taljan also finished seventh in the pole vault with a leap of 15-11.75, while Wimberly checked in sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.07.
The Battling Bishops also won the men’s championship with 163.5 points.
Oberlin will continue its season next weekend at the Last Chance Meet at a to-be-determined site.
