Day One Results & Standings
February 29 – Many season-best marks were established for the Oberlin College track and field team on day one at NCAC Indoor Championships as the Yeowomen rest in second place, while the Yeomen ended in fifth.
“This was a very good first day for us,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We got a great effort from everyone involved and look to carry this momentum into tomorrow.”
The Yeowomen, whom tallied 40 points on the day, were led by a one-two finish in the 5000-meter run as first-year Joanna Johnson touched the tape in first place with a career-best time of 18:14.99, while senior teammate Marie Barnett followed in a close second at 18:15.25.
Senior Deysi Villarreal matched her own school record in the women’s pole by clearing 10-4 to end in second place. First-year leaper, Laura Vernon followed in third place with a mark of 9-06.25.
Senior captain Kate Cook also posted a life-time best toss in the shot put with a heave that covered 36-10.25 to finish in second place.
For finishing third or higher all five women received NCAC All-Conference accolades.
The Yeomen registered 12 points on the day as first-year Josh Gallagher recorded a life-time best toss in the shot put with a mark of 46-00.75 to end in fourth place. Senior Mark Miller checked in at sixth place in the shot put as he covered 43-09.25 with his toss.
Junior Conor Doss completed the 5k run in 15:36.11 to garner a fifth-place finish for the Yeomen.
Final-round action of the NCAC Indoor Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
