Final Results
January 19 -- Oberlin College senior Anna Chernin set a new school record in the women’s 500-meter dash with a time of 1:20.24 to highlight an exciting night of track and field action at the John W. Heisman Field House.
“It was great to be back in action,” head coach Ray Appenheimer said. “When you start the season with a school record and the great performances we had tonight, I think it is a sign of good things to come.”
In the first running event of the night the Oberlin “A team” tandem of Alexandra Gemma, Amelia Fortunato, Lily Krichels and Anna Cherin tallied a second-place time of 1:54.62 in the 4-x-200 meter relay.
Melissa DeLombaert took top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 32’-3 ½” (9.84m) and senior Chisara Nwabara tied for first in the high jump – clearing 4’-8”.
Oberlin continued its success in the jumping events, claiming spots two through four in the women’s long jump with Krichels ending in second with a mark of 15’-4 ¼” (4.68m). Gemma followed suit in third as she covered 15’-2 ¼” (4.63m), and Nwabara placed fourth by clearing 14’-10 ¾” (4.54m).
Senior Deysi Villarreal registered a second-place finish in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 9 – ¼” (2.75m), and teammate Rachel Silverman ended in third as she cleared eight feet (2.44m).
Kate Cook added another victory for Oberlin with a toss of 35’-4 ½” (10.78m) in the women’s shot put.
First-year Hillary Tipton put together a strong run in the women’s 1000m – ending in second with a time of 3:19.70.
In the final event of the night, the grouping of Madeline Schultz, Amanda Miller, Krichels and Chernin completed the 4-x-400 meter relay in 4:21.47 to earn a second-place finish.
On the men’s side, Conor Doss bested a six-man field in the mile run with a winning-time of 4:34.90.
Junior Ryan King and senior Andrew Pike finished one-two in the men’s 1000m run, with King clocking in first at 2:45.67 and Pike following at 2:46.14.
First-year Sean Dunne started the meet off with a second-place showing in the 3000m as he completed the course in 9:51.16.
Josh Gallagher posted a third-place finish in the men’s shot put with a toss of 41-10 ½” (12.76m). Gallagher later returned to take second place in the men’s high jump – tying teammate Kyle Taljan with a mark of 5’-3” (1.60m)
Oberlin will return to action on Jan. 26 at the Case Western Reserve Invitational.
