April 12 – The Oberlin College track and field team continued to rewrite the record books on Saturday as they established two more school-best marks at the All-Ohio Championships.
“It was great to see this team compete at such a high level against premiere competition from all across the state of Ohio,” head coach Ray Appenhemier said. “The atmosphere at the meet was outstanding and it allowed us to raise our level of competition.”
The foursome of Christa Wagner, Amanda Miller, Madeline Schultz and Anna Chernin set a new Oberlin-best time of 4:02.12 in the 4-x-400-meter relay to win the event.
Also adding to the record book on the men’s side was first-year Josh Gallagher as his hammer throw covered 129-03 as he ended in 10th place.
Other strong performances for Oberlin included, Schultz finishing in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.71. First-year Joanna Johnson put together a strong run in the women’s 5,000 meters as she checked in at 17:54.47 to finish in third place.
Senior Steele Hearne hurled the javelin 107-01 to earn a seventh-place finish in the event.
Junior Cody Hartley also flew through the 400-meter hurdles in 57:35 to finish in seventh place.
As a team, the Yeowomen placed eighth out of 19 teams, while the Yeomen ended 18th in the 20-team field.
Oberlin will be back in action next Saturday, April 19, at the Kenyon Invitational.
