April 21, 2007 -- The
Oberlin outdoor track and field team traveled to Gambier,
Ohio this afternoon to compete in the Kenyon College
Invitational. Both the Yeomen and the Yeowomen had
a number of great individual performances, with the
men finishing in seventh place and the women placing
fourth.
Boasting first-place finishes were Barrie
Newberger and Maddy Davis-Hayes for the Yeowomen and
Kyle Taljan (javelin throw) and Corey Squire for the
Yeomen. Newberger won the 800-meter run in a time of
2:16.70, while Davis-Hayes broke the tape first in
the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:41.38. Squire won
the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:07.12.
Deysi Villarreal and Kate Cook finished in second
place today in the pole vault and hammer throw, respectively,
while three Yeomen had strong fourth-place finishes:
Micah Peterson (200-meter dash, 23:11), Ryan King (800-meter
run, 1:57.51), and Conor Doss (1,500-meter run, 4:02.26).
Next up for the Yeomen and Yeowomen is
Baldwin-Wallace College's Spark Adams Invitational
on April 28.
