Oberlin finished its indoor season strong today at the NCAC Championships with one setting a school and meet record and another breaking a school record. The Yeowomen and Yeomen finished in third place and eight place, respectively.
The Yeowomen were led by sophomore Flannery Cerbin, who set the meet and school record in the mile run breaking the tape at 5:05.23. The previous school record in the mile was held by sophomore Maddy Davis-Hayes, who came in first in the 3000-meter run, finishing with a time of 10:32.11. Davis-Hayes, sophomore Nicky Ouellet, and senior Barrie Newberger finished in second, third, and fourth behind Cerbin in the mile.
Cerbin, who was named the middle distance
runner of the meet, also finished in second place in
the 800-meter run (2:18.68) and anchored the 4x400-meter
relay team, which came in second place with a time
of 4:09.95. The rest of the 4x400-meter relay team
consisted of first-year Clara Shaw, first-year Madeline
Schultz, and Ouellet, who finished in third place behind
Cerbin in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.24.
Newberger also finished in fourth place behind Cerbin
and Ouellet in the 800-meters.
The Oberlin women also won the distance
medley, breaking the tape at 13:00.37. The distance
medley team consisted of junior Alex Petek, first-year
Hannah Callon, first-year Krista Rynkowski, and senior
Ariane Burwell.
The Yeomen were led by sophomore Ryan
King and junior Cassius Harris. King came in third
place and broke the school record in the mile run with
a time of 4:22.49. King was also a member of the distance
medley team, which came in fifth place. The team also
consisted of sophomore Kyle Taljan, junior Andrew Higgins,
and sophomore Conor Doss.
Harris had a strong performance in the
long jump, coming in fourth place with a jump of 21'03.75".
He was also a member of the 4x200-meter relay team,
which came in fourth place with a time of 1:36.25.
The other members of the team were sophomore Edwin
Takahashi, Taljan, and junior Cody Hartley. The Yeomen
also had a strong performace by junior Cory Myers,
who came in fourth place in the pole vault (13'8").
This event finishes the indoor season
for Oberlin and it will now prepare for the 2007 outdoor
track and field campaign.
