February 17, 2007 -- A trip to Kent State University completed an excellent weekend for the Oberlin indoor track and field team. After gutting out strong performances yesterday at Baldwin-Wallace, the Yeomen and Yeowomen busted out tremendous individual efforts today, with three school records falling in the process.
Sophomore Flannery Cerbin continued to improve in the 800-meter run by breaking her own school record with a time of 2:18.46. Also setting new Oberlin standards were classmates Nicky Ouellet and Ryan King. Ouellet topped the school mark in the 1,000-meter run with an effort of 3:02.68, while King also excelled in the 1,000, running a record time of 2:35.21.
Other notable performances this afternoon came from
junior Chisara Nwabara and senior John Shaw. Nwabara leaped a season-best distance of 15'2" in the long jump and Shaw boasted a lifetime time of 8:54 in the 3,000-meter run.
The Yeomen and Yeowomen will return to competition on February 23 when they host the third Oberlin Open of the 2006-2007 indoor season. The event at the Heisman Field House is slated to commence at 6:00 p.m.
