January 11 – It took all 16 events to determine a winner, but the Oberlin College Yeowomen fell just short as they found themselves on the wrong-end of a 150-148 decision against Ohio Northern on Friday night at Robert Carr Pool.
The Yeowomen needed a first-place finish in the final event of the night to secure victory, but Ohio Northern’s A-relay group took the top spot in the 400-yard free relay with a mark of 3:52.42 to steal the victory away from Oberlin.
Both the men’s and women’s teams put forth great effort tonight as they spent the last 24 hours on bus traveling back from their training trip in Key Largo, Fla.
“We swam well tonight,” head coach Mark Fino said. “I am proud of the way we competed today as team. We went through a tough week of training down in Florida and spent the last 24 hours on a bus. For these kids to come out here and perform the way they did, that says a lot.”
First-year standout Sara Kadi recorded her first victory of the night as she posted a mark of 2:15.70 in the 200-yard butterfly. Kadi later returned to complete the butterfly-sweep with a victory in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:00.21. In final individual event of the night, Kadi earned her third victory by winning the 200 IM with a mark of 2:15.52.
