February 13 – The Oberlin College Swimming and Diving team is set to compete at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships starting tomorrow morning at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
The three-day invitational will run from Thursday – Saturday, with preliminary events taking place each morning and event finals in the evening.
“We are really looking forward to competing,” head coach Mark Fino said. “We have worked so hard all year long, and I believe we will see the results of that hard work over the next three days.
The Oberlin women had a phenomenal season, winning the most dual meets in 25 years with a 6-3 record during the season.
The Yeowomen are led by first-year sensations Sara Kadi and Jenny Meltz. Kadi, a butterfly and IM specialist from Piedmont, Calif., has already established new school records in the 100 (58.99) and 200 (2:12.11) yard butterfly events. She also set a new school record in the 400-yard IM with a mark of 4:40.66.
Meltz, a freestyler swimmer from Andover, Mass, has posted new school records in the 1000-yard free (10:37.85) and 1650-yard free (17:59.67). She also ranks second all-time with a mark of 5:16.54 in the 500 yard free.
On the men’s side Senior John Hugens paces Oberlin as he has posted the Yeomen's top times in three distance freestyle events and both backstrokes. Junior Scott McInerney is the team's top sprint freestyler and also has Oberlin's top time in the 100 butterfly (52.98). First-year Corey Spiro will also be a force to reckon with in both medley events as he holds team-best times in the 200 (2:01.87) and 400 (4:35.87) yard medleys.
Senior Cory Myers will be a major player off of both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards as he looks to improve on his national-qualifying scores.
Wittenberg University is hosting the event and will have complete results after each session on their website. Full recaps and results will also be posted on Oberlin’s athletic website after each session.
