February 14 – The Oberlin College swimming and diving team took part in the first-round of preliminary events on Thursday morning at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.

“We had some good swims, but also made some rookie mistakes,” head coach Mark Fino said. “Laura Fries had a strong swim in the 500 free, but some of our first-years made some mistakes that I know will be corrected tonight.”

Fries checked in with a season-best time of 5:23.39 in the 500-yard free to earn a spot in tonight’s ‘C’ final. Senior Kiri Ulmschneider was Oberlin’s top-finisher in the 500 as she ended 13th overall at 5:20.35 to claim a spot in the ‘B’ final.

First-year Sara Kadi ended in seventh with a mark of 2:12.15 to earn a spot in the ‘A’ final of the 200-yard IM.

Final events the 200-yard free relay, 500-yard free, 200-yard IM, 50 free, 400-yard medley relay and the finals of women’s 3-meter diving will all take place tonight starting at 6:30 p.m.
