February 15 – The Oberlin College swimming and diving team established four new school records to highlight a very productive night at the NCAC Championships.
“Everyone swam well tonight from top to bottom,” head coach Mark Fino said. “Breaking four records and having the effort we had is a great way to go into tomorrow and sets us up for going out on a very high note.”
It didn’t take long for the Yeowomen to start changing the Oberlin record book as the foursome of Laura Fries, Bryne Ulmschneider, Sara Kadi and Shannon Gallagher completed the 200-yard medley in 1:53.14 – besting their previous best of 1:53.54 – and ending the race in fifth place.
Kadi, a first-year star for the Yeowomen, also broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly with an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 58.61 – finishing fifth overall. Kadi’s opening-split time of 1:56.34 in the 800-free relay also gave her the new school record in the 200-yard free.
Following Kadi into the pool in the 800-yard free relay was Jenny Meltz, and Ulmschneider sisters Kiri and Bryne as they combined to establish a new school-record time of 8:01.87 – ending in fourth place overall.
Kiri Ulmschneider topped her morning lifetime-best in the 400-yard IM as she established a new personal-best mark of 4:44.26 to end in eighth place. Teammate Kelsey Sherman also recorded a personal-best time of 4:57.61 to finish in 12th.
Laura Fries continued her strong meet with a personal-best time of in the 100-yard back 1:01.68 to finish 10th overall.
As a team the Yeowomen remain in fifth place with 425 points.

Daniel Holm posted a lifetime-best swim of 1:02.58 in the 100 breast, and Scott McInerney had a solid swim in the 100-yard fly – checking in at 53.05.
