In front of a packed house at Carr Pool, the Oberlin
swimming and diving team put forth an outstanding
performance tonight against Baldwin-Wallace College.
The meet began just moments after new President
Marvin Krislov's inauguration at the Heisman Field
House, and Head Coach Mark Fino's swimming and
divers capped off the evening in exciting fashion.
The Yeowomen swam past the Yellow Jackets
with ease tonight, winning 192-101 to improve to 1-1
on the year. The Yeomen also put up a strong fight,
but Baldwin-Wallace escaped with a 173-112 victory.
In what was an excellent all-around effort
by the Yeomen and Yeowomen, the individual highlights
are almost too numerous to list. All together, the
men and women combined for 21 victories against the
Yellow Jackets.
First-year Sara Kadi led the way tonight
for the Yeowomen by racking up three individual and
one relay victory. Kadi swam a 1:59.37 in the 200-yard
freestyle, a 59.79 in the 100-yard butterfly, and a
2:15.79 in the 200-yard individual medley. Shannon
Gallagher, Jenny Meltz, and Laura Fries also each had
a pair of individual wins for Oberlin.
First-year Jon Vimr led the Yeomen with
three victories in the 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard
individual medley, and the 200-yard freestyle. Junior
Scott McInerney won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle
events.
Oberlin will return to action on November
9-10 when it travels to nearby Case Western Reserve
University for the Veale Classic.
