-- Head Coach Mark Fino's
men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled
to Granville, Ohio, this afternoon to compete in
a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet against
Denison University. Despite some really strong
individual efforts, the Yeowomen were narrowly
defeated, 98-120, while the Yeomen fell 83-120
to the Big Red.
Highlights for the women's team included
two very good swims by first-year Sara Kadi. She won
the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.38,
which is one of Oberlin's fastest times in school history.
Additionally, Kadi placed second in the 100-yard butterfly
with a time of 1:00.64.
Sophomore Laura Fries had a great 200-yard
freestyle race, recording a personal-best time of 2:09.17.
She also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with
an effort of 1:04.65.
Junior Scott McInerney, who had an exceptional
2006-2007 season for the Yeomen, continued to impress
in the team's first dual meet of the 2007-2008 campaign.
McInerney placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with
a time of 22.65, just .60 seconds away from first-place
finisher Jon Behnke from Denison.
Oberlin's swimmers and divers will look
to get into the win column when they host their first
dual meet of the season at Carr Pool on November 2.
The non-conference meet against local foe Baldwin-Wallace
College is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
