January 13, 2007 -- Just a day after competing in a dual meet at Ohio Northern University, the Oberlin women's swimming and diving squad trekked to non-conference opponent Notre Dame College this afternoon. The Yeowomen claimed seven victories against the Falcons to earn their third team win of the 2006-2007 campaign, 99-82.
Kiri Ulmschneider again led the way for Head Coach Mark Fino's Yeoswimmers, as the junior won two races and swam the third leg of Oberlin's winning 200-yard medley relay team (2:03.93). Ulmschneider touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.85) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.74). She was joined by first-year Laura Fries, senior Melissa Ising, and sophomore Ploy Keener in the 200-yard medley relay.
Also earning victories for Oberlin were first-years Fries (100-yard backstroke) and Shannon Gallagher (1,000-yard free), senior co-captain Emily Spence (50-yard free), and sophomore Bryne Ulmschneider (100-yard free). The Yeowomen's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gallagher, Keener, Spence, and Bryne Ulmschneider also swam the fastest time of the day (1:47.75).
"We were happy to win a quick meet today with a number of our people swimming very well," Fino said. "We're now really beginning to gear up for a great conference meet in about a month."
Before the Yeowomen and Yeomen venture to Canton for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on February 8-10, they will take part in a pair of dual meets. On January 19, Oberlin will travel to Washington and Jefferson for a 4:30 p.m. competition, while the squads will host John Carroll University on January 20 (1:00 p.m.) for their last home meet of the season.
