January 19, 2007 -- In their final road dual meet of the 2006-2007 season, Oberlin's men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Washington and Jefferson College this evening. The Yeowomen fell to the Presidents, 124-154, while the Yeomen were topped by the hosts as well, 82-110.
Highlighting the women's efforts tonight was Bryne Ulmschneider. The sophomore put forth an outstanding performance in the 1000-yard freestyle by earning first place in 11:17.34. Ulmschneider also was a member of the Yeowomen's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:45.76). She was joined by senior co-captain Emily Spence, fellow sophomore Ploy Keener, and first-year Shannon Gallagher in the victory. Also earning a win for Oberlin was first-year Laura Fries, who touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.54.
First-year Dan Holm had a strong day for the Yeomen, as he boasted a lifetime-best in the 200-yard breaststroke. Holm won the event in a time of 2:23.85.
Tomorrow afternoon Head Coach Mark Fino's squads will compete in their final home meet of the year as non-conference John Carroll University visits Carr Pool at 1:00 p.m.
