January 20 -- The Oberlin women's swimming and diving team won its fourth dual meet in its last six tries this afternoon, as the Yeowomen downed John Carroll in their final home meet of the year, 132-99. The Yeomen were defeated by the visitors, 64-115, despite a number of outstanding individual efforts.
Head Coach Mark Fino's women's team won nine events today to coast to the non-conference win over the Blue Streaks. Junior Kiri Ulmschneider highlighted the Yeowomen's efforts by racking up three wins. She claimed victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:19.25), 200-yard individual medley (2:21.22), and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.74). A pair of first-years, Shannon Gallagher and Laura Fries, capped off their first season at Carr Pool in fine fashion. Gallagher won the 100-yard free (56.12) and the 200-yard free (2:01.05), while Fries touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.26). Senior Emily Spence closed off her home Oberlin career by winning the 50-yard free (25.82) and placing second in the 100-yard free (56.84). Bryne Ulmschneider, Gallagher, Spence, and Fries teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.76.
