Sophomores Mark Muthersbaugh and Bryne Ulmschneider were Oberlin's standout swimmers on Friday night |
November 10, 2006 -- Just a day before hosting Wittenberg University at Carr Pool, Oberlin's swimmers and divers traveled to Cleveland State University this evening for a five-team invitational. The Yeomen and Yeowomen both dropped four decisions tonight to Baldwin-Wallace, Case Reserve, Cleveland State, and Gannon, while breaking a plethora of season and lifetime bests at the event.
Oberlin's women were led by sophomore Bryne Ulmschneider, who finished second in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard free. Her respective times of 5:28.24 and 2:02.97 were both season bests. Senior Melissa Ising also had an excellent day for Head Coach Mark Fino, topping her lifetime bests in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Mark Muthersbaugh paced the Yeomen tonight, setting a personal record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.59) by over two full seconds.
"We had some very good swims tonight despite some mental mistakes that we've been working hard at correcting during practice," Fino said. "If we start putting everything together, we will continue to improve."
The Yeomen and Yeowomen have little time to rest, as Wittenberg will trek to Oberlin tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference showdown.
