Adrienne Davis took over as the head softball coach at Oberlin in 2006. An outstanding former student-athlete at Beloit College, she spent 2005 as an assistant coach with her alma mater. A two-year captain for the Buccaneers, Davis was selected to the All-Midwest Conference first team four times. She was named Midwest Conference Rookie of the Year in 2001 and Most Valuable Player in 2004. As a senior, Davis was 32-90 at the plate for a .356 average while stealing five bases and striking out just twice.
Behind the plate, the dominant catcher boasted a .986 fielding percentage and called pitches for the entire staff of hurlers. She holds five Beloit school records and appears in the Buccaneer record book 16 times. "Adrienne Davis has all of the tools to move our softball program forward," Acting Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard said. "Her outstanding abilities as a player, her leadership in helping to develop a great program at Beloit, and her academic background match well with the skills needed to oversee our program."
A native of Wooster, Ohio, Davis majored in music at Beloit. She spent the 2004-2005 season as an assistant coach at her alma mater, where she played an important role in leading the Buccaneers to their best season in nine years and a runner-up finish in the Midwest Conference. Davis worked with the pitchers and catchers and coached first base and organized various aspects of practice during the season.
"I am passionate about softball, and I value the role that sports can play in the total experience of the players at Oberlin," Davis says. I look forward to continuing the development of the Oberlin softball program as we set ambitious goals for the future." |
