Game One Box l Game Two Box
April 16 – Sophomore Julia Chauvin went 4-for-7 on the day, including her team-best third homerun of the season - but despite one of their best efforts of the year, the Oberlin College softball team was defeated by Wooster 8-2 and 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yeowomen got off to great start in both games, posting two runs in the first inning of game one and three runs in the first in game two. Unfortunately, the OC bats couldn’t keep the momentum rolling through both games.
Michelle Zanni, who had two hits in game one, led off with a single and scored on Chauvin’s two-run bomb over the left-field wall. However, the Oberlin lead was short-lived as Wooster responded with four runs off of five hits in the top of third. Scots’ pitcher Katie Pifer then shutdown the Oberlin bats the rest of the way to earn the complete-game win.
In game two, the Yeowomen came out blazing again with a three-spot in the first inning. Zanni led off the game with a single and scored on RBI double to left by Chauvin. Lauren Luther later followed with a two-RBI double to center field that plated Chauvin and Ruth Allanbrook.
Oberlin held that 3-0 margin going into the fourth inning, but the Wooster bats came alive for five runs in the inning to take the lead it would not relinquish.
Allanbrook added an RBI-single in the fifth for her second hit of the game, but it was too little too late as the Scots already tallied eight runs.
The Yeowomen will have a quick turnaround as the Kenyon College Ladies will come to town for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow.
