March 26 – On their final day of competition in Fort Myers, Fla., the Oberlin College softball team played three games - falling to SUNY Potsdam 6-4; DePauw 13-0 and St. Olaf 14-2.
“It was a good week and we improved a lot” head coach Adrienne Davis said. “Obviously we still have a lot to work on, but I think we have been making strides with each game we play. We are looking forward to returning home and getting our conference season started.”
Oberlin (0-13) and Potsdam already played once during the week and unfortunately the Yeowomen suffered the same result this time around as well – losing 6-4.
Sophomore Sophie Schacht continued to swing the bat well as she belted a two-run homerun – her first of the season. Fellow sophomore, Kate Phillips added a triple and two runs scored in the game.
In game two, Oberlin played its toughest opponent to date – falling to the fifth-ranked DePauw Tigers 13-0.
Jennifer Sees did have a productive game at the plate going 2-for-2, while catcher Ruth Allanbrook went 1-for-2 with a double.
In Oberlin’s final game of the Gene Cusic Classic, St. Olaf College topped the Yeowomen 14-2.
Michelle Zanni completed her outstanding trip by going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Lauren Luther, one of six sophomores on the roster, also got into the mix with a 2-for-3 effort at the dish. Sees also added a triple in the game.
Oberlin will return home to host Franciscan University in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 29. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
