March 25 – Michelle Zanni, Julia Chauvin and Sophie Schacht continued their outstanding play today, but it wasn’t enough as the Oberlin College softball team fell to Middlebury College 9-2 and Alverno College 9-4.
“Michelle, Julia and Sophie have continued to carry us in all phases of the game,” head coach Adrienne Davis said. “Michelle has done it from the mound and at the plate, while Julia and Sophie are hitting just as well and playing great defense.”
Against Alverno, Zanni and Chauvin each belted their first homeruns of the season to lead the Oberlin (0-10) offensive attack. Zanni, a junior from Struthers, Ohio, also added another hit to go along with two runs scored in the game.
In game one against Middlebury, Chauvin went 2-for-3, with a double, RBI and run scored for the Yeowomen. Schacht, who is a sophomore from Rochester, N.Y., also went 2-for-3 at the dish.
Zanni, one of the main pitching cogs for the Yeowomen, struck out three batters in the game.
Oberlin will conclude its time in Fort Myers, Fla. tomorrow with a tripleheader against SUNY Potsdam, St. Olaf College and DePauw University. The first game will get underway at 9 a.m.
